Walking in Memphis (and Running, Swimming, Biking)

The Memphis in May Beale Street Music Festival attracts a huge crowd from across the country and is always an amazing event. But when one of the major corporate sponsors, Facebook, decides to add a last-minute, big-name surprise performer AND a special guest for an unprecedented duet…well, it all kinda blows up into a mega-moment.

Just two weeks before the festival date, we were contacted by the London-based director for Facebook’s ad agency to assemble a production and post-production crew and prepare a game plan. We put together an amazing crew of more than 60 people, including our own staff and freelancers, to create a 27-camera recording of a duet of “Walking in Memphis” between Miley Cyrus and Marc Cohn. After capturing the footage on a rainy Saturday evening, the post-production team spent the next 24 hours back at our studios to create several versions of the video. Here’s a link to the first version released to the media.

To get a sense of what the evening was like for our crew, here’s a short behind-the-scenes video we created.

A week later, we went from “walking in Memphis” to running and bicycling, too. Memphis is one of 4 cities vying for an IRONMAN triathalon. When the IRONMAN team came to town for a visit, we produced a Facebook Live stream with two cameras and a live drone shot from high above Shelby Farms Park, along with a pre-edited highlights reel of the city. You can see a recording of the live feed here.  It’s been shared nearly 200 times, and has 26K views…so far!
